The British Virgin Islands are not duty-free but there is no Sales Tax.
Tortola's shops are generally open 9am-5pm, Monday to Saturday. They stock similar goods to the USA and UK but with a smaller choice of brands at higher prices. The currency is US Dollars and Debit / Credit Cards are only accepted in supermarkets and the larger stores.
There are gift shops and boutiques in Road Town and the main tourist areas of Tortola and Virgin Gorda. Most resorts also have a gift shop on site and Cooper Island has its very own 'Sea Grape Boutique'.
