Green

Here at Cooper Island Beach Club we are committed to being as environmentally responsible as we can. We worked with Alternative Energy Systems www.aesbvi.com to install a state-of-the-art Solar Panel System which now provides us with 30-40% of our power. This system is the first of its kind in the Americas and we are very proud to have it.

Here are some of the other things that help make us Green.

  • Our cottages have louvered windows and a screened cupola at the top of the vaulted ceiling allowing the breeze to flow through and the warm air to escape. A ceiling fan above the bed ensures that guests are kept cool at night without the need for air conditioning.
  • Each cottage has its own rainwater cistern and rooftop solar water heater to supply the showers.
  • Waste shower water is used for irrigation.
  • Guest bed linens are changed every third day unless requested otherwise, in order to reduce detergent and water usage.
  • Guests are encouraged to re-use their room towels.
  • Low voltage LED lighting was installed in the restaurant wherever possible to reduce our energy consumption.
  • Our in-room guest amenities were changed to a dispenser system reducing the wastage caused by bottles and packaging. The soap and shampoo products are by Earth Perfect. They are eco-friendly, bio-degradable and not tested on animals.
  • Tree trimmings, paper and other organic waste is composted on island.
  • We will be growing some of our own herbs and vegetables on island to reduce food transportation costs.
  • Our bar stools and lounge furniture is made from recycled teak fishing boats.
  • The fryer oil used in the kitchen to cook your fries at lunchtime is collected and turned into bio-diesel which fuels our generator.
  • We use ECOProducts from www.greentechbvi.com in the bar. The cups and straws are made from corn and are bio-degradable.
